Not on the floor on the table!

Okay this one you definitely need a beer for, because it’s shuffleboard! Shuffleboard can usually be found in a bar (thats why you NEED a beer for it lol) alongside a wall or something. The reason I mentioned the floor in the title is because there is a different shuffleboard game you play on the floor and I have no clue what that is so please don’t ask. lol The shuffleboard game I’m talking about is where you slide little metal pucks across a fiberglass table that has sand or powder on it so the puck can slide across easily.

Shuffleboard is a point based game. You score points by sliding the pucks across the table into your opponent’s different point boxes, as you can see in the photo on the right, there is a 3 point box, 2 point box and 1 point box. “Okay, is that it? Sounds easy!” That might be what you’re thinking but its a little harder than it sounds because you have to play with your opponent next to you. So I usually play 2v2 where my teammate and I shoot on opposite sides. So when its your turn to shoot or slide should I say, where ever your puck lands is where it will stay for the rest of the turn. Then from the same side your opponent will slide their puck in the same direction. This is where it gets tricky, some people like to try to hit your puck off with their puck. So let’s say I step up and I’m first to slide and I land in the 3 point box, that sounds like a great shot right? WRONG. Now my puck is open to being hit off the table by my opponent.

That’s where the fun comes in!

It becomes a battle between friends to see who can score up to 21 first! It really is a lot of fun and when you’re drinking and enjoying a little competition with your friends, what more could you ask for?

This video isn’t how the game is played but check out these trick shots and see how the board looks and operates!

The last one though!

Monopoly takes too long!

Ahhh yes Monopoly has that reputation for being that game the lasts forever and some say “I never finish a game.” And all this is true, it does take a while to get through a full game of Monopoly but its the most rewarding feeling when you win and you bankrupt everyone and you’re the richest! (HAHA EVIL LAUGH) lol I have a solution for those of you who can’t stand how long a game of Monopoly , Monopoly deal!

It even says on the box “Play in 15 minutes” Cause they y’all be buggin.

This one isn’t like Uno. Not too many people know how to play this game!

The object of the game is to acquire 3 full sets of properties. It sounds easy when you think about tradition monopoly but its a lot harder in this card game adaptation. In Monopoly Deal you have 3 different types of cards, Properties, Action cards and money cards. Action cards allow you to do a number of different things from drawing more cards, charging someone money or stopping people from stealing your properties and of course stealing others properties, the best card of all! lol In this game you build up your bankroll by setting money down on your board, this helps to protect your properties from being taken when people charge you rent. If people charge you over the amount of money that your bankroll has then you have to pay with properties. Thats pretty much it, with the charging of rent and use action cards, the game gets pretty hectic sometimes, but all in good fun!

Give this game a try!

Buy a deck and some beer and have yourself a great night at the corner of Park Place and Boardwalk!

Uno, Dos, Tres…. Nahh just Uno.

I think it’s safe to say that everyone has played Uno before in their life. IF YOU HAVEN’T THEN IM NOT REALLY SURE ABOUT YOU, CAUSE THAT IS JUST SUS! lol Just kidding. If you haven’t played Uno before though you really are missing out on a fun card game the whole family can get into.

Uno!

In Uno everyone starts off with the same amount of cards in their hand and the object of the game is get rid of all your cards. It’s that simple, well kind of. In the deck there are Skip cards that skip your turn, Draw 2 and 4’s that add cards to your hand or reverses that make the rotation go the opposite way so the person you were just dumping draw cards on now has a chance to get you back. It’s called Uno because once you get to the last card in your hand, you have to announce it to group by saying “Uno” out loud. This is where it gets tricky!

Everyone has their own rules when playing UNO

I’ve played Uno with several different people and EVERYONE has their own set of family rules. “Well, that’s how me and my family play” Yes Becky we get it, that’s how your fam plays but that ain’t how we gonna play, got that? Sorry Becky lol When it comes down to it, its really up to the group to choose how they wanna play and I suggest you bring it up to your group before starting a game. Now sorry again Becky but we are gonna play how my family plays. lol I like to say that we play pretty standard, you must call Uno when you have one card in your hand and if you don’t call uno by the time the next person starts to play their turn, someone can call you out on it and you have to draw 4. Other then that the rules are just normal Uno rules. Ive heard if people say Uno faster than you, you have to draw. Ive heard of this thing where you play random cards or people can steal cards and I just wanna say, Whuuuut? lol

Grab a Uno deck for your next party and have some fun!

Drinking with friends and playing Uno is a lot of fun and I’m sure you’ll get a kick out of it if you haven’t done this before. Okkayyyy I’m not saying to do this but I’m not not saying don’t try it either, but make the game a little more interesting and make a bet. My friends and I run $1 or $2 games sometimes or bet chugging a beer. It puts the pressure on!

There’s Something on Your Head!

This game is a little different then the other games that I have mentioned in the blog so far. I never said my blog was all about video games cause its really about fun. Im out here trying to give y’all some options and shed light on some entertaining games that can help you reach that maximum fun level. (Their fun level is over 9000 lol)

Picture it now you’re at Disneyland!

You’re at the happiest place on earth but for some reason you aren’t so happy because you’ve been waiting in line for Space Mountain for a while now and you’ve ran out of things to talk about with your group. As you stand there silent, hoping that some how the line will start to move faster and you’ll be in space within the next few mins, that just doesn’t seem to be the case! Don’t worry I’ve got some things you can do to up your fun levels while in line at Disneyland. Heads Up!

Artwork for the Heads Up!

The Heads Up! game is like a modern day charades that you can play with your iPhone or Android. There is different categories in the game like BlockBuster Movies, Animals and The 80’s. So you select the category you want to play then you put the phone on your forehead like the picture up there ^. You’re supposed to play where the people act out whatever is on the phone screen and you’re supposed to guess what they referencing. The way I usually play is where the people just describe it to you, they can also act it out but I feel like describing it helps to make it a little more fun!

I would be saying California love, Westside!! Stuff like that.

IT WORKS FOR AMUSEMENT PARK LINES

I went to Disneyland California Adventure this passed February for my girlfriends birthday and at one point we were kind of bored waiting in line. I pulled out my phone and we started to play this game and it was a lot of fun. It made our time in line memorable and enjoyable. I feel like nowadays people just zone out into cyberspace with their cellphone and don’t enjoy those little times with friends and family like waiting in line for ride. Those little times can mean the world to some people and like I said the memories I made playing this game in line at California Adventure are some that I’ll keep forever associated with that trip.

Give it a try next time you got some time to kill with some family and friends!

BLUE SHELL!!

The race is going great. You got a great start, you’ve been hitting all the mystery boxes and getting good items. Your drifts are on point and you took first place with the rest of the players a ways behind you. All you hear is, FEEEEWWWWWWWWW, from across the map. Even though you have a banana to block you from a red shell cause you’re a pro (*pro tip* if you aren’t a pro lol) Someone just threw a blue shell at you on the third lap of the race and now your victory might be in jeopardy. You all know this scenario, at least if you have ever played Mario Kart before, then you know. That blue shell has personally ruined me a few times -___-

“…the last shall be first and the first, last”
Ruining friendships since 1996

For those of you haven’t played Mari0 Kart, it’s a racing game with Nintendo Characters like Mario, Luigi, Peach and others from that universe. The blue shell hits who ever is in first place when its thrown and stops them for a second or two. Thats why it ruins games and most importantly friendships. lol Mario Kart originally came out in 1992 for the Super Nintendo, it was titled Super Mario Kart. I played this one before but I played more Mario Kart 64 that came out for the Nintendo 64. I played A LOT more Mario Kart DS for the Nintendo DS when they barely came out. I had the blue lol Mario Kart DS was awesome, it had great maps to race on that were new and also a couple of throwback maps. The game played incredibly well on the DS. You could even race people online. I had so many nights with close races that I was pretty much a pro at this game. I knew where and when to drift, how to snake (snaking is a form of drifting where you boost and drift the whole race), I knew the maps very well and I just played a lot. It was a lot of fun. Who could forget Mario Kart Double Dash? Or Mario Kart Wii? I also spent countless hours beating my friends in races in these two gems of games. Mario Kart Double Dash was for the Nintendo GameCube and Mario Kart Wii was for, well ya know, the Wii!

If you have never played Mario Kart, Give it a try!

I suggest you get a couple of your friends and race for first place in Mario Kart! The newest game in the Mario Kart Franchise is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch. Check it out!

Get Over Here!

To keep up with the fighting game genre, I had to give Mortal Kombat a spot. MK is nostalgic to me and I’m sure it also is to a lot of you. The bloody and gory classic is still active today with their release for their newest game title, Mortal Kombat 11. But personally when I think about MK, I think about the old school ones. I remember playing MK on the Sega Genesis, that black console and controller. So iconic.

Here is a look at the classic Sega Genesis along side a Mortal Kombat Cartridge

I remember also losing to my brother in the early Mortal Kombat’s but it was still fun to play. I liked MK a lot cause the graphics where a lot different than other games. The animation used digitized actors who did the gestures and movements of the fighters. It made for a unique look that still stands out today in my opinion. Check it out!

Gameplay of Mortal Kombat

My favorite Mortal Kombat game is Mk Deadly Alliance. Mostly due to the fact I played this one the most. I had it for the original Xbox. Me and my friends would get together and play all night. Although it didn’t have some of my favorite characters, the graphics and stories were good so that made up for it. In this game you could change between three fighting styles. Each character also had a weapon which added a little spice into the gameplay. Take a look at a clip of Deadly Alliance

Bloody and Gory is the story.

Mortal Kombat was always filled with blood and gruesome endings called Fatalities. A fatalitie is where the winning player gets a chance to do a series of buttons that perform the fatalities, then wining player rips out the losers bones or blows of their head off or something. They game was so bloody and gory that after the first MK, game makers had to set the age limits on all games they made. I would add a video but ill leave it for you to pick. A new Mortal Kombat came out game just game out, Mortal Kombat 11. I have played this one and I must tell you that the graphics are great, the game play is a little slow but other than that I had a lot of fun with it. Here is a little pick at MK11.

Let’s Get Ready to Rumble!

Fighting games have always been one of my favorite kinda of games. There’s no better feeling than getting a flow started, where you’re hitting combos and capitalizing on all openings on your opponents. It just feels like everything is going right for that minute of two. Some of my favorite fighting games include some of the biggest names like Super Smash Bros, Mortal Kombat, Marvel vs Capcom, Tekken, but my favorite fighting game franchise has to be Street Fighter.

Hadouken!

You’ve heard this sound if you ever played any Street Fighter game. It’s the sound the main characters Ryu and Ken make when they shoot a fire ball from their hands. There has been many different Street Fighter games over the years, they are now on their 5th game installment. There is a lot games between 1-5, like Super Street Fighter II and Ultra Street Fighter IV. My favorite is Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike.

Cover Art for Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike

To be honest I didn’t play much of the other Street Fighter III’s, just this one. I liked it a lot cause the 2D gameplay felt classic like the old school games. I like the 3D stuff like SFIV but 3rd Strike just looks cool. Plain and simple. This was also the first Street Fighter I ever took on competitively, using an arcade stick and following top players. Here is my favorite Street Fighter clip of all time. This is the most epic comeback in fighting game history in my opinion.

I know its a long clip but you’ll see why its my favorite if you watch the whole thing

Let’s Fight?

Our very own Titan Student Union has a little arcade on the lower level and they have 3rd Strike. You can catch me there sometimes on Mondays and Wednesdays around 10-11 am. If you see me and wanna battle, you better have your quarter ready and be prepared for a good fight! Hadouken!

All Time Favorite… Halo

Halo 2 is the game that singlehandedly pioneered Xbox Live in my opinion. At a time when playing against others online was still a new thing, Halo 2 came out guns blazing (literally) and set the gaming community on fire. Halo: Combat Evolve or Halo 1 was a big hit on its own but without being able to play against others online, it didn’t have the chance to reach masses like Halo 2 had from the start. When Halo 2 came out, everyone was talking about it and I mean EVERYONE. My brother and I had to share an Xbox live account, J H S 4 E, don’t ask what it stands for, its a family insider lol Sharing an account was the worst thing ever to my older brother. In a competitive game atmosphere that was brand new and thriving, the first online shooter that was readily accessible to most people, first game you got to play with your friends over the internet and he had to share it all with his little brother. In his defense it does sound pretty horrible to be honest, but hey sorry, not sorry! I had to get my piece of the action for myself! After a year or so and after countless fights my parents finally got me my own account, Robomonster, again don’t ask why because I have no explanation for that one lol Halo is a first person shooter game that follows the adventures of Master Chief. Master Chief, a complete bad ass, saves the world countless times and pulls off the unthinkable just in the nick of time so the people of earth can be safe. Set in I believe the 26th century, the game is very futuristic. The story of the Halo games are great, they have received many awards and some even say its the best game franchise of all time, but the mutlti-player has always been my favorite and continues to be the reason why I still play the game today. Halo 3 is really where my true love for Halo really started to blossom.

Halo 3 truly brings back some major memories. This is a clip of someone getting some kills on one of my all time favorite maps Guardian.

I remember the day I first saw and played Halo 3. It was kinda of close to my brother’s birthday and my uncle bought him Halo 3 as an early present. I came home from school and there she was, sitting right on our dresser, shinny from the clear wrapping over the game, Halo 3. If I had every hour I played this game back I could probably graduate from Cal State Fullerton and complete a Graduate program. I played this game so much and at one point this game was my whole life. The graphics were smooth and crisp, the gameplay was new and different, and the biggest change, I was older. Old enough to spend countless hours playing video games that is lol I also got grounded for like 3 months and my parents were the nicest parents in the world and let me play video games on the weekend and after hw sometimes. I know I got grounded and I still got to play games, doesn’t sound so harsh huh? Well I had no cellphone and couldn’t see my friends and to me that was the worst thing ever, no joke. My love for Halo grew to an outstanding level and it has stuck with me ever since. I stuck through the thick and thin with this game franchise. From bad games to studio changes I’ve seen the rise and fall and somewhat comeback of the Halo universe. After Halo 3, they had Halo: ODST, a third person campaign only game, a lot of people liked it but I was never much a fan since I mostly played Halo for the multi-player. Then came Halo: Reach which was good, different but good. I enjoyed all the things they added like jetpacks, armor lock and the thruster pack, but at this point Halo’s popularity was starting to fall off due to the growing success of the Call of Duty franchise. Halo: Reach was the last game made by Bungie Studios, the original creators of Halo. This made me sad and still don’t know why they gave up on Halo, maybe cause the hype was dying off, some speculate it was because Halo is an Xbox exclusive and it kept Bungie from branching out onto all gaming platforms other games, who knows though. 343 Industries was the new studio put together by Microsoft to produce the Halo games. Then came Halo 4, sad face emoji…. I was excited for Halo 4, it was around the time I got my first job and I decided to buy the collectors edition of the new Halo. Halo 4 wasn’t a horrible game but it was too different. They added aspect of games that competed with Halo, mixing in some of the best and worst part of some of those games too. For me it just didn’t work and didn’t have the same feeling as Halo should. Not only did I not like it as much as pervious Halos, neither did anyone else. It was a sad day for the franchise, I thought Halo might have been dead. After Halo 4 they made a remake of all the Halos that could be played in one game, The Master Chief Collection. I had it, I played it, I liked it. It was a positive step for 343 Industries, but it was just all the old games. Not that they weren’t cool, it was fun, but I really wanted something brand new. Then 343 knocked it out the park with Halo 5 Guardians.

Couldn’t find a great clip of Halo 5 but here is a little something.

Halo 5 was awesome. It was fast enough to compete with other games at the time and it brought back the old Halo feeling with a new high powered graphics. It brought back the Halo community and they actually had world tournaments and everything. I still play Halo 5 till this day and still enjoy the time I do. 343 listened to the community and it payed off, Halo 5 was a hit and was definitely a huge plus for the studio. I figured it might be the last Halo since the story started to follow another character alongside Master Chief but I was wrong. 343 has something new in store for Halo lovers like myself, Halo Infinite.

Let’s hope Halo Infinite is as cool as it looks!

Okayyy…You didn’t see it coming, PokémonGo!

I know what you’re thinking, “Did this guy just say Pokémon GO? LOL!” Yes, thats exactly what I said. The year is 2016 and it’s a sunny summer in early July. In the background you hear Drakes “One Dance,” playing on your first night playing Pokémon Go! Your local parks are filled with randoms and your Twitter feed is set ablaze with #PokémonGO! Everyone is talking about what Pokémon they’ve caught and what gyms they have taken over and how future of gaming is here! Pokémon was a hit cartoon that aired in the US in September 1998. Stemming from the hit of the popular Gameboy games, Pokémon Red and Blue that came out in 1996. Pokémon are like animals with special abilities that range anywhere from fire breathing to projecting ice beams and everything in between. Pokémon trainers train their Pokémon to battle against other Pokémon to see who is the ultimate Pokémon master. You’ve probably seen these 4 somewhere in your life, this is Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander and Pikachu.

Gen 1 starters

PokémonGO! is an augmented reality (AR) mobile game thats played on iPhone and Android mobile devices. In this game you actually have to go out into the world to play it, which in my opinion makes the game fun by providing something to do, thats free! When you open the app you’ll see a world laid out in kind of a map form and on the map, Pokémon will spawn for you to catch, you’ll see things called Pokéstops and Gyms. Heres a look at what you’d see on your screen.

The little guys in the circles in front of the character are Pokémon, that’s Meltan. Off to the left you’ll see a blue cube, that is a Pokéstop. Right in front of the character is the blue circle with a blue bird, that is a Gym.

Pokéstops are at places like landmarks and various traffic signs or on anything memorable to that area, something that isn’t going to move or change often. When you get in the vicinity of the Pokéstop you can click on it and then spin the photo disc, after spinning it you will receive items. Items include different Pokéballs, potions and berries that help you in the game. A gym is where the Pokémon battling happens in PokémonGO, same concept at the Pokéstops, gyms are places you’ll have to go too in real life to interact with. There is three separate teams, the best team of all and the one you should pick (I swear I’m not being bias) Team Valor (Red), Team Mystic (Blue) and Team Instinct (Yellow). One team at a time leaves up to six Pokémon to defend the gym for their team color. Other teams can come to the gym and battle the defending teams Pokémon to claim the gym for their team.

This is for you to get a look at what a gym battle looks like

Besides battling at gyms, catching rare Pokémon is a lot of fun! Catching something you haven’t before caught or seen before feels pretty good. It feels like finding your phone after misplacing it for 10 mins lol well maybe not as good as that but somewhere close! haha

Why should I play PokémonGO? I got bored after a few month after it came out. Why start again?

I knew this question was gonna come up and don’t worry I have answer for it. There has been a lot of changes to the game since 2016. The addition of Raids and Friendships has added a more reasons to play by providing a goal to achieve and promoting a community aspect to the game. A Raid is when a special Pokémon takes over a gym for 45 mins and gives trainers the chance to fight this Pokémon and the chance to catch it if they beat it. Raids can be played with a group of friends to make it easier, which promotes a community aspect and gives you a reason to play with you friends. There is now a friend system where you can add people as friends. You can send your friends gifts once a day to help booth your friendship level, you can get gifts when you spin Pokéstops and Gyms. When you boost your friendship level you get xp, which helps to level up in the game. This gives you a reason to play with friends! These are the new things your missing while you continue to sleep on Pokémon GO!

Give it a try!

If you had any fun with the game in the past I assure you that you will have some fun with it now! Check out a raid and add some friends, get walking around your neighborhood and enjoy the free entertainment that is Pokémon GO!

You knew it was coming… Fortnite

Yes I still play Fortnite! lol Saying this more to the gamers who read this because they know all know about Fortnite I’m sure, I bet some of the people reading this used to play Fortnite who now play other poplar titles like Apex Legends, Black Ops 4 or reverted to their old loves like CSGO, PUBG or something else. Fortnite for those who don’t know what Fortnite is, it’s a 3rd person shooting battle royale game. Battle Royale games are when usually 100 people drop from the sky onto the map where they find loot (guns, ammo, ect) and duke it out till there is only 1 person left standing! The Battle Royale genre got really popular over the last year and half in the gaming scene and I don’t see it going anywhere for a long time. What makes Fortnite different then other games is the Building aspect of the game. In Fortnite you start off with a pickaxe that is used to gather materials. By breaking down a tree, a brick or metal wall with your pickaxe, you collect wood, brick and metal that you can then use to build walls, floors, roofs and ramps. This kind of in game placement of new landscape and buildings at the fingertips of the player has never been see before in any other game. You build to protect yourself, to get on top things and help win in gun fights. In Fortnite, you usually get into a build battle where people try to get the high ground and shoot downward at you. You’re ability to build in this game really makes or breaks how good you are at it. Building adds a strategic element to game that other games don’t have, and to me, simply makes the game fun!

I added this video so you can get an idea of what a “build battle” actually looks like, although this guy is a pro, so lets say this is a dramatization of what a “build battle” is. lol

One thing Fortnite has that other games don’t, is a dedicated community. Most of the pros live stream their games to Twitch, where people like me watch to learn new strategies and skills and also for entertainment. Some of these guys are pretty funny and it becomes more like you’re following their personality like an actor or artist then just watching someone play a video game. Watching all these streamers play together and play in tournaments is like watching play off basketball or something, it just gets HYPE sometimes! For anyone that likes shooting games and hasn’t played Fortnite I would recommended it, its a fun interactive battle royale shooter that just might get you addicted like me! And if you ever want to check out some streamers just to see what the gameplay is like, some of my favorites are Dakotaz, Tfue and Ninja just to name a few!

Hope you liked my first post and hope we can game together in the future, see you in cyber space !
